Santana:Santana III (1971)

Guitar Tabs True to the evolution of Santana music during the beginning of this millennium, “I’m Feeling You” — a collaboration with Michelle Branch and her partner in The Wrecking Crew , Jessica Harp — takes Carlos away from his classic Latin sound, and into mainstream pop. However, the collaboration process which worked so unbelievably well for Supernatural 9 Grammies, 25 million albums sold and counting has been so watered down and processed by this third album in the series that it’s hardly recognizable as Santana music.

Unfortunately, Carlos’ excellent band, with Raul Rekow on congas, Karl Perazzo on timbales, and Dennis Chambers on drums, doesn’t get heard much in the mix. The producers apparently opted for a simplified pop feel, rather than the enhanced rhythmic structure Latin percussion provides. It’s in a major key D from which it never strays, contains a pleasant enough, albeit forgettable melody, and includes lyrics guaranteed to offend no one.

As is so often the case with his later material, Carlos plays smoothly and fits in well in between the cracks of the vocals.

Bassist Benny Rietveld and percussionist Karl Perazzo from the current incarnation of Santana fill out the lineup. So titling the new effort Santana IV is simply a continuation, as if this band of brothers were just picking up 45 years later — though Rolie and Schon would go on to co-found another little group that did okay for itself, Journey. And it seems that Schon was the real kickstarter for this campaign. And we really played with each other. And all were recorded in two or three takes.

She’s Not There Guitar Tabs Santana is a master of covering someone else’s song and infusing it with a unique flavor; “She’s Not There” is no exception. Written by Rod Argent and released by Argent’s band, The Zombies, in , She’s Not There has been covered dozens of times by other artists, but none has had the success with it that Carlos Santana did.

The Zombies other smash single, “Time of the Season,” was released after Argent left. Dominated by an electric piano Argent’s Hohner Planet , the song includes a barely heard electric guitar track, as well as layered vocal harmonies throughout, in the somewhat dirge-like style favored by many folk bands at the time. The lead vocalist sings much of the song in a somewhat wispy falsetto, which adds to the unique timbre.
